Every Day Altar IV by MadamMichi Every Day Altar IV by MadamMichi
* I am not Wiccan , I am an Eclectic Pagan :meow:

I ended up buying a long lighter since I can just barely use a regular lighter and can't use matches ^^; ...me and fire have a love hate relationship.
Anyways I also got new candle holders for free, it was pretty awesome. AND I got statues: The Goddess is Athena of the Greek Pantheon and The God is Djehuty (Thoth) of the Egyptian pantheon. I also got a mortar and pestle, a new bundle of twigs and a bag for my tarot cards :) ,

I am going to try to explain it and hopefully I won’t sound too confusing :XD:

Ok first it's a type of religion!

I'll start with the "Neo-Pagan" part.

“neo” just means “new”. Since most forms of ancient paganism (like the Greeks and Romans) died out many people add “Neo” to distinguish the ancient pagans from today’s pagans. I personally don’t like using neo I just say “Pagan” and “Paganism” since it’s pretty obvious that there is a difference between the two groups and adding it seems unnecessary.

Moving on!

Paganism is an earth-centered religious movement that started around the beginning of the 20th century. “Neo-“ Paganism is an umbrella ter, and many different religious paths fall under the category. Kinda like the term “Abrahamic Religions” includes Islam, Christianity , and Judaism, Neo-Paganism contains many different religions. Which means it’s hard to describe it complexly since there are so many differences.

However, many share a few things in common:

:bulletblack: They tend to see the earth as sacred and something to honor.

:bulletblack: They tend to have not-so-common views of the divine.

For example Wicca is dueotheistic, most Wiccan's believe “All Gods are one God and All Goddesses are One Goddess" They often refer to them as "The Lord and The Lady"

Ethnic based neo-pagan paths may be polytheists (many gods) and focus their attention on one pantheon (a pantheon is a group of gods from a particular time and culture) For Example Kemetic (neo)Pagans focus solely on the Ancient Egyptian Pantheon and Hellenic (neo)Pagans focus solely on the ancient Greek Pantheon.

Some pagans are atheists, some are pantheists, some are still figuring out what they believe.

:bulletblack: They tend to honors the earth’s cycles , the equinoxes and the solstices, the times of planting and harvestings, the march of the seasons , some pay close attention to moon cycles. And so on.

:bulletblack: Paganism is heavy in symbolism.

:bulletblack: Most forms of paganism do not have dogma or
a strict hierarchy .

:bulletblack: Paganism stresses personal responsibility, and most forms frown upon proselytizing.

:bulletblack: Paganism views humanity as a part of nature not above it.

From there it all really depends on which form (or path) of paganism you are discussing.

Let’s move on to the “eclectic” part.

Eclectic just means bits and pieces of different things.

Since I am also solitary (I practice alone) eclectic basically means “fit for me personally”

I am heavily influenced by Wicca but I have big difference from Wicca. For example I am a polytheist who believes all gods from all cultures are unique and part of the divine realm. I do not believe they all form one god and one goddess. I also don’t believe in the three fold law , and I believe the “Wiccan Rede” is just useful advice. I take my moral code from the Golden Rule of Christianity and a Western form of Karma from Hinduism. See? Bits and pieces. I believe in divination but I take different divinations techniques from different cultures and add my own ideas and see what works. I look to all religions and all cultures to see what fits. I am open to trying anything but I also reject what I feel is nonsense or just doesn’t work.

That is what Eclectic means. Every Eclectic pagan will be different from every other Eclectic Pagan. However we are bonded together by the basis of Paganism and the Earth. :D

Hope that helps.

It was a pleasure to me!
Yes Djehuty/Thoth is an amazing god. I don't see him as calm. But I think that he realy deserves title "god of wisdom".

Very nice. I like the look of your mortar and pestle. One of the things that caught my eye was the spotted hyena next to Thoth. Is the hyena a totem of yours?

Thank you. And well yes (I think) I have never refereed to it as a "Totem" though. I always just call it my spirit guide ...I have two the Spotted Hyena and the Snake.
I know "familiars" are animals that you have personally as a pet. But I consider the Snake my "familiar" science that animals archetype spirit is like my comfort animal that provides support and the hyena as my "spirit guide" since it's spirit is the tough-love "you need this in your life even if you don't want it" type of guidance.
Hope that makes sense at all. ^^;

Makes perfect sense *nodnod* ^_^ I have four that I consider my "totems," since they stem mostly from my own personality, but then I have one that is my "spirit guide" and she doesn't have an animal shape. Or, at least, not a permanent one.
